Your new luxury vinyl floors are almost here
All that’s left to do now is prepare for installation day! Proper prep & involvement on your part will help to ensure that the installation goes smoothly for you, your family, and our team. We’ve prepared this helpful guide to get you thinking about what to expect before, during & after the installation of your new vinyl floors.
Before Installation Day
Moving your furniture.
We’ll start by removing all furniture and other objects from the areas where the installation will take place. Beforehand, you’ll need to empty the contents of china cabinets, closets and drawers. We may also ask you to adjust the climate-control settings (heat or air conditioning) in your space before we arrive.
Decide what to do with your old floors.
We’ll decide in advance if and how your old floor covering will be removed and disposed of. This can be a time-consuming task.
Be aware of your trim.
In many cases, moldings and baseboards need to be removed for vinyl installation. Painted baseboards, woodwork and paint may need retouching after the installation is complete.
Next is the subflooring.
Your existing subfloor may need to be prepared before we lay your new vinyl, or an entirely new subfloor may be required. Either way, we’ll ensure that the subfloor is as clean and level as possible.
Be prepared for the clean-up.
Installing new vinyl will produce waste. Usually these materials are collected by your installer and left at your property’s trash collection site. We’ll confirm this ahead of time and come up with an alternate plan if there are any issues.
On Installation Day
Be home to greet your team.
Be prepared to be at home the day of installation and be available in case the installation crew has questions. Your presence will ensure that the correct vinyl is installed in the right areas. It can be difficult to estimate the duration of each job, but we’ll do our best to keep you updated on changes to the schedule.
Safety first!
Your installers will use a variety of tools and techniques that can make the work area hazardous. Please make sure that your children and pets are kept out of the work area on installation day.
Do a walk-through and ask questions.
We recommend that, prior to the completion of the installation, you walk through the job with the chief installer. This will give you the opportunity to ask questions and be clear on any final details.
After Installation Day
Time and temperature are important.
For a minimum of 24 hours after your new vinyl floor is installed, don't walk on it or clean it to avoid damage to the seam sealer & adhesives, if any were used. If you are sensitive to dust and odors, good ventilation should be established for 48 to 72 hours after installation by opening windows & running fans, if possible.
Take great care when moving heavy furniture & appliances back into your room. Lift or slide them using pads, being sure never to drag or scrape them across the floor.
